Berlin workers donned their best overalls and danced into May Day at Kinostalgia’s ‘Modern Times’ themed Workers Ball. On Tuesday 30th April 2013, Kinostalgia screened Charlie Chaplin’s delightful and timeless film ‘Modern Times’ followed by a foot-loose party with industrial levels of dancing and good old-fashioned fun.

The screening of ‘Modern Times’ was followed by a Workers Dance hosted by the Berlin Hop crew, accompanied by the swing band The Goodnight Circus. The party continued on until early hours of May 1st with DJ Marcus ISTF playing a specially tailored set inspired by the film.

Modern Times depicts Chaplin’s iconic Little Tramp coming to terms with the modern industrialised world. The film is a comment on the desperate employment conditions many people faced during the Great Depression, conditions created, in Chaplin’s view, by the efficiencies of modern industrialisation. A slapstick skewering of industrialized America, Modern Times is as politically incisive as it is laugh-out-loud hilarious.
