Kinostalgia launched in Berlin on August 18th 2012 in the Roter Salon in Volksbühne with a themed night inspired by the classic Hollywood comedy ‘Some Like It Hot’. The event paid tribute to the film icon Marilyn Monroe marking the milestone 50th anniversary of her death.

A screening of ‘Some Like It Hot’ to was followed by an after party with a live performance by the Sugar Kane Jazz Trio playing some of Monroe’s most memorable songs and other classic jazz treats. DJ Lobotomy followed playing an exclusive retro set inspired by the film. In keeping with the classic cinema theme, usherettes served signature cocktails, which were prepared especially for the night. The audience was invited to help set the scene by dressing up in their vintage finest or mirroring the characters of the film (cross-dressing was highly encouraged!).

One of Hollywood’s most treasured classics and the American Film Institute’s number one in their list of America’s 100 Funniest Movies, ‘Some Like It Hot’ stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as Chicago musicians who accidentally witness a gangland shooting and quickly board a southbound train to Florida, disguised as Josephine and Daphne. The two then become the newest and homeliest members of an all-girl jazz band, which includes a never-better Marilyn Monroe. While Curtis falls for Monroe and creates another alias to woo her, Lemmon gets stuck fending off the affections of millionaire Osgood Fielding III. Marilyn Monroe’s charm, perfectly matched by the pairing of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon’s comic duo, makes ‘Some Like It Hot’ Billy Wilder’s most sizzling comedy.

This night of cinema nostalgia and old–style Hollywood sophistication transported the audience back in time for a night of film, vintage fashion, dancing and good old-fashioned fun.
